Social Security is the main source of income for many of America’s retirees. But the program faces a financial shortfall which was exacerbated by the coronavirus pandemic, with its trust fund projected to deplete as early as 2032. In this briefing, PWBM Director of Special Projects Jagadeesh Gokhale will walk participants through the basics of the Social Security program, how to understand the program’s finances and economic effects, and how PWBM has analyzed the program’s future and potential reforms.
This briefing is an elective lesson in PWBM’s Certificate for Policy Professionals, which is geared toward congressional staffers and other public policy professionals who work in the Washington, DC area. The program will train students in the economics of public policies and the process of how policies are made. After completing the program, certificate earners will be better prepared to understand and articulate the economic trade-offs of legislation. Please visit our certificate page to learn more and apply.
